Dinner & Hope Event: Grant #1

Our first grant that was going to be awarded at our Dinner & Hope Event goes to an amazing couple that is going through IUI. Our grant will cover the cost of their 10-day ultrasound and their IUI procedure.

This couple has been struggling with infertility caused by endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, and adenomyosis. The couple has already undergone several medicated cycles during their fertility journey but will be taking the next step with IUI.

We look forward to providing an update when the couple has completed their treatment to document their experience. Please send your love, support, and prayers to the couple for their upcoming treatment.

A note from the couple about their infertility journey:

“Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for your consideration for this incredible program. My husband and I met in high school and started dating at age 19. Immediately we knew we were meant to be together. Since then we have always dreamed about getting married and starting a family of our own.

We have envisioned over and over being able to have children and support a family we deeply love. We bought a house together in February 2018 and immediately knew it was the perfect home for our family. We were then married on October 27, 2018. Little did we know there would be significant roadblocks for us in growing our little family. For several consecutive months, I had constant severe pain. I also was not ovulating and had amenorrhea.

We knew it was time to examine this further, so we made an appointment with a fertility specialist. After several tests including a physical exam, pelvic ultrasound, and blood work, I was told I needed surgery including a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. My husband also underwent a semen analysis that came back within the normal range. March 2019 is when surgery was performed. A believed 1-2 hour surgery lasted approximately 3.5 hours. It was much more extensive than they had originally thought.

I had over 15 areas of endometriosis removed, a large cyst was removed, diagnosed with PCOS, adenomyosis was found, 2 tumors were removed, ovarian drilling was performed, and a tubal dye study was completed as well. The surgery went perfectly, and I was feeling 100 times better than my old self by two weeks post-op. I was amazed that I could indeed live nearly pain-free after having pain for several years on and off. My doctor gave us the green light in April 2019, to start trying on our own for 3-4 months.

If pregnancy did not occur within that timeframe, fertility treatments would need to be started. It crushed us to hear at my post-op appointment that conception would have been next to impossible if I had not undergone surgery. We had no luck after the 4 months of trying to conceive on our own.

Over the next 3 months, I was on fertility treatments consisting of Clomid, Estradiol, and the trigger shot along with ultrasound follicle checks. The following 3 months I was on Letrozole, Prometrium Suppositories, and the trigger shot. Those 3 cycles also included ultrasound follicle checks. After several months of failed results, we are currently awaiting our first round of IUI. Our entire journey has been paid out of pocket because our insurance does not cover any infertility treatments.”
