How it Began

Founder Angie Sonnenberg and her husband struggled with infertility for years. Having seen a beautiful heartbeat at their first-ever ultrasound, only to learn later at their 12-week appointment that they had miscarried, the couple struggled to conceive again. After seeking help from multiple specialists and undergoing many rounds of medicated cycles and three IUIs, they learned that they would need IVF to conceive again.

Through their struggle to have a child, Angie and her husband discovered how few people spoke publicly about the topic of infertility. Angie found that receiving infertility treatments was an extremely overwhelming and emotional journey. To add to the difficulty of the treatments, not having other women and couples to relate to and, ask for advice from, was painstakingly difficult to navigate. The only comfort Angie found was through a few discussion boards where women offered to share their journeys.

In starting their IVF journey and having already undergone months and months of treatment, Angie knew that she wanted to create an organization that would help prevent any other couples from experiencing the hardships and emotional struggle that she endured. Angie finalized the creation of Hope Against Infertility, Inc. the same month that she and her husband began the IVF process. Angie knew that they were fortunate to be able to afford the many thousands of dollars that infertility treatments and medications cost, but acknowledged the great financial struggles that prevent so many couples from completing their dream of having children. She created this organization to not only raise awareness about the struggles that couples endure with infertility but to also provide financial support to couples struggling to afford infertility procedures, such as IUI and IVF, as well as infertility medications.
